A Letter from the Principal, September 2, 2010
Welcome Back!
As the nineteenth-century British playwright John Heywood noted, “A hard beginning maketh a good ending.” This adage rings true as we begin the new school year. Teachers are working closely with students and parents to ensure that all new class room procedures are clearly communicated and understood. The first weeks of school are a period of adjustment. If you have questions concerning class room teacher policies and procedures contact teachers directly. All teachers are accessible by email, phone, or through that old standby, a written note.
For staff emails, you should access our school website (www.stnicholascs.org) and click on “Discover Us.” Click on “Our Staff” and a “Staff Directory” box will appear. Type the name of the staff member you wish to contact and their email address will appear. If you have questions about general school policies please contact Mrs. Wittmers in the school office or you can contact me directly via email (mpsweeney@sncsgh.org).
With the exception of music, the entire St. Nicholas teaching staff returns for the new school year. Ms. Ann Wopat is the new music teacher. Ms. Wopat is an experienced Catholic elementary school music teacher and liturgist. Ms. Wopat has also taught vocal music at the college level. Mrs. Karen McDonald has joined the staff as a full-time class room aide.
This fall I will be completing the school’s first long-range plan. The plan is a critical part of the presentation to be made to the visiting Western Catholic Education Association (WCAS) accreditation team in April. As you may recall, St. Nicholas Catholic School gained it first WCAS accreditation in 2006 after an arduous but rewarding process that included a three day appraisal by a WCAS visiting team. When the long-range plan is completed and approved by Fr. Hung it will be made available to parents on the school’s website.
I look forward to a fruitful school year.
Thank You for Supporting Catholic Education,
Michael Sweeney
